The Data Mining group was established in
November 2000 by Dr. Saed Sayad in a collaboration with Professor Stephen T. Balke in the Department of
Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto.
Our goal is bringing together academics, professionals and students of
diverse backgrounds interested in various applications of the rapidly growing discipline of
data mining. We combine modern statistical methods, machine learning, and knowledge of specific
application areas to develop new approaches to data mining.
Our group, consisting of students and faculty, meets weekly to exchange
ideas on the field of data mining. We read and discuss books and papers on both theory and
applications of data mining. Applications related to the use of real
time data mining are of particular interest.
