Chemistry of Urban Aerosols:

  • Work in this area seeks to develop and apply analytical instruments, classification software and environmental models in order to better understand the size, composition and origins or urban aerosols.
  • Some of the research topics include the chemical characterization of aerosols, use of this data in health studies, investigation of changes in composition during smog episodes and development of pattern recognition software to identify sources
  • The research projects is this area share common elements with the Department's Research Clusters in Environmental Engineering, Information Engineering and Surface Chemistry

Environmental Nuclear Science:

  • Work in this area examines the environmental impact of nuclear facilities and the application of radiochemistry and radiation chemistry in order to investigate other environmental systems.
  • Some of the research topics include fission product chemistry, retention of heavy metals by soils and treatment of pollutants using radiation.
  • The research projects in this area share common elements with the Department's Research Clusters in Environmental Engineering, Surface Chemistry and Energy Engineering
