Professor Charles Jia is the 2015 recipient of the MetSoc Environmental Award presented by the Metallurgy & Materials Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). This award recognizes significant contributions to the field of environmental science and engineering, as well as sustainable development in the metallurgical industry.
Professor Jia’s research is concerned with applying sciences and engineering principles to maximize the value of natural resources and minimize the impact of industrial operations on the environment. He has trained over 60 Masters/PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. In addition, he has authored and co-authored about 100 research papers, held multiple US and Canadian patents, and consulted for international companies and governments. Professor Jia has been a member of CIM since 1993.
