The Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry hosted its annual Faculty Orientation Day on Thursday August 28th, welcoming a new cohort of students as they begin their university journey at the University of Toronto.
The event brought together faculty, staff, and student leaders to introduce incoming students to the department, highlight opportunities for involvement, and share advice for a successful start to their academic careers.

Chair Ramin Farnood opened the program with a warm welcome, followed by presentations from Professors Charles Jia, Greg Evans, Timothy P. Bender, and Jennifer Farmer, who shared insights on the department’s academic programs and research strengths.
The orientation also featured contributions from student representatives, including Pasindu (Freddie) Perera (ChemClub), Mariam Itani (UTCV), Jerry Li (CSChE UofT), Amogh Mannivannan (iGEM), and Korkoi Attoh (PEY Student Development Coordinator), who introduced opportunities for engagement in extracurricular activities and professional development.
A special thank-you goes to Freddie for leading and MC’ing the day’s program with energy and enthusiasm, helping to set a welcoming tone for the incoming class!
The Department thanks all speakers and participants for contributing to a successful event. We look forward to seeing the accomplishments of our newest students as they begin their studies in Chemical Engineering.
