On Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry hosted its annual Welcome to Engineering event for incoming students and their families.
The event gave future students an opportunity to meet their classmates, connect with faculty members, and learn more about the program from professors and alumni.

Professor Grant Allen led the session and welcomed attendees to the department.
“Engineering is about curiosity, collaboration, and solving real-world problems,” said Professor Allen. “We’re excited to welcome a new group of students who will bring fresh ideas and energy to our community.”
Faculty members Professors Daniela Galatro, Bertrand Neyhouse, and Benjamin Sanchez-Lengeling also introduced themselves and spoke about their academic backgrounds, research interests, and the courses they teach within the program.

The department was also pleased to welcome alumni Peter Murphy and Aeron Huerta, who shared their experiences as engineering students and answered questions from both parents and incoming students.
“One of the best parts of the program was the strong sense of community,” said Murphy. “The friendships and connections you build here really stay with you throughout your career.”

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get involved early,” added Huerta. “There are so many opportunities available to students, both inside and outside the classroom.”
We are excited to welcome this new group of students to campus this fall and look forward to seeing them begin their engineering journey at U of T ChemE!
