The U of T Engineering Research Conference (UTERC) returned this summer for its 5th annual edition, held on Friday, August 22 at the Myhal Centre. The conference brought together students, researchers, and industry professionals to engage with the innovative work of graduate students.

This year’s theme, Riding the Wave of Innovation, celebrated the momentum of transformative ideas and forward-thinking solutions shaping our world. Participants explored how emerging technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and bold creativity are driving progress across diverse fields.
Several Chemical Engineering students were recognized with awards at UTERC:
- Angel Badewole – Best Podium Award in “Sustainable Solutions and Education” track with abstract “One Resource, Dual impact: Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage”
- Naayaab Nagree – Best Poster Award in “Sustainable Solutions and Education” track with abstract “Microencapsulation and Delivery of Iron into Food Systems”
- Jincheng Hong – Best Poster Runner-up in “Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics” track with abstract “Engineering of Organic Solar Cells with an Array of Nano-structural Differences of Boron Subphthalocyanines”
- Niher Ranj Sarker – Best Podium Runner-up in “Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics” track with abstract “Leveraging Liquid-Liquid Interfaces in a 3D-Printable Reactor to Form Sub-Micron Freestanding Membrane Selective Layers”
Their outstanding work was recognized by both peers and judges, and we are proud to celebrate their success.
