Young alumnus wins 2018 Sterling Award

Michael Burdett (ChemE 1T4) is the 2018 recipient of the G. Gordon M. Sterling Engineering Intern Award, which is presented annually by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and recognizes leadership potential within the engineering profession.

Since graduating from ChemE, Michael has utilized his technical skills to solve problems in his professional work. As a PEO volunteer, he is presently leading or assisting in nearly every project at the Etobicoke Chapter. At work, his dedication to process safety management is a great example of his leadership. Passionate about the cause, Michael practices a systematic approach to safety in a plant environment and is patient in helping others understand why safety matters. He is continually looking for improvements; and, through involvement in many safety organizations, helps effect change in safety policy and culture.

This is the second year in a row that an alum from ChemE has won the award. The 2017 recipient was Lorena Tere (ChemE 1T4).
