The MEng Project of the Year award, which began last year and honours two MEng students for outstanding achievement in their MEng project, has been awarded to Hao Yang Xu and Long Ye for the 2023-24 academic year.
Xu’s project – Evaluation of Sampling Techniques and Their Impact on Key Performance Indicators in Machine Learning Surrogate Modeling of Adsorption-based Separation Processes – applied artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimize a chemical process’ performance and enhance sustainability. Yang started his (2-year) extended full-time MEng in Fall 2021. Along with his MEng project, Yang completed an emphasis in Data Analytics & Machine Learning. He graduated with his MEng in June 2024.
In an effort to tackle climate change, Ye’s project – Can Neutral Electrolyte Increase Supercapacitor Energy Density? – explores a new way to store electrical energy using wood-derived carbon. Ye was an undergraduate student in Chemical Engineering, graduated with her BASc in June 2019, and completed an MIE MEng in November 2020. She started her ChemE MEng part-time in Fall 2022 and graduated in June 2024, having also completed an emphasis in Data Analytics & Machine Learning.
Congratulations Hao Yang Xu and Long Ye, well done!
