Professor Arun Ramchandran appointed Associate Chair, Graduate Studies

Dear faculty, staff, and students,

I am very pleased that Professor Arun Ramchandran has accepted to serve the Department as the Associate Chair, Graduate Studies for a 3-year term from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.

Arun Ramchandran is currently a Canada Research Chair in Engineered Soft Materials and Interfaces.  He directs the Laboratory of Complex Fluids, which works towards the establishment of fundamental knowledge in the fields of complex fluids and transport phenomena.

In this new role, Arun will be supporting the department’s goal to ensure a vibrant graduate program that offers a rewarding experience to our doctoral stream students.  Some of the key focus areas of the ACGS will include enhancing our graduate student recruitment processes, undertaking a review of graduate curriculum, promoting best practices for graduate supervision, and serving on the Engineering Graduate Education Committee of the Faculty Council.

Please join me in congratulating Arun on his new appointment.

I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Professor Charles Jia for taking on the additional leadership responsibility as our Interim Associate Chair, Graduate Studies, over the past year. Charles will continue his role as Associate Chair, Continuing Professional Development and will work closely with Arun on many of the above initiatives.

Sincerely,

Ramin Farnood
