Dear ChemE students, faculty, and staff:
As the Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry, I would like to welcome you all to the start of another exciting academic year. This is a particularly exciting time of year for me as I get to see and meet so many fresh new faces, bask in the energy and excitement on campus, and feel the sense of determination and commitment from our returning students and dedicated faculty and staff who strive to support our community at ChemE.
To our newcomers, I commend your choice to pursue your academic journey with us. U of T has long been recognized as the leading engineering school in Canada, and as part of our community, you’ll be learning from world-class professors and researchers who will nurture and support your developing career as chemical engineer.
Our Department is committed to seeking out innovative solutions to global challenges in energy, the environment, and health, and producing leaders who will go on to make impactful contributions in these areas. To this end, our role has never been more vital as our society faces many challenges in the development of sustainable and renewable resources that have come to define our generation. Each of you have started out on a journey to become meaningful contributors in solving these issues, and I want you all to feel a great sense of pride in that, as I do.
I am also pleased to inform you that the staff at ChemE have been operating at full capacity from our campus facilities for quite some time now, and you all have access to our full range of campus resources and supports. To further provide our students with support and guidance, I encourage you to schedule 1-on-1 meetings with me to exchange ideas, insights, and concerns. I look forward to engaging with you and nurturing your success in any way I can.
Whether you’re a new student or a seasoned professor, as members of ChemE, we all play a vital role here at U of T and beyond. Let us support each other as we move forward, working in collaboration to achieve our goals and make our mark on the world.
Wishing you all a year filled with accomplishments and growth!
