March is Engineering Month in Canada. Professor Molly Shoichet and her lab have been featured in Canadian Living‘s March 2022 issue, celebrating inspiring women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) for International Women’s Day. The article outlines Professor Shoichet’s accolades as a woman working in STEM, as well as her lab work, representation of […]
ChemE alum, Don Riddle (ChemE 7T8), has been donating since 1983 and is continuing to support future generations of engineering students with the same incredible opportunities he had as a student. “I know that the university is stretching donor dollars to go as far as they can to give today’s students’ incredible opportunities. I also […]
Decarbonizing transportation continues to be a major challenge for researchers as Canada’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050 fast approaches. A new research collaboration supported by U of T Engineering’s Dean Strategic Fund aims to accelerate the decarbonization of transportation. Professors Marianne Hatzopoulou (CivMin), Greg Evans (ChemE, ISTEP) and Jeff Brook (Dalla Lana School of Public Health, ChemE), […]
With her scientific achievements and research contribution to the field of wood science, Professor Ning Yan has been elected a Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Science (IAWS: the Academy). Professor Yan is a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Bioproducts, Distinguished Professor in Forest Biomaterials Engineering and the Director of Low Carbon Renewable […]
Constantine Karayannopoulos (ChemE 8T3, MASc 8T8), CEO of NEO Performance Materials, spoke with Connexion host Howard Green about the importance and preservation of 17 elements called rare earths. NEO Performance Materials is a Canadian company that has been involved in rare earths for 30 years, making progress internationally in China, Europe, and more. Hear Constantine’s […]
A collaboration between U of T Engineering and Ford Canada led by Professor Mohini Sain (cross-appointed to ChemE) has produced a new, sustainably-sourced material that reduces high-performance vehicle emissions. The new material reduces emissions and improves fuel efficiency through displacing fossil fuel-derived plastics with renewable alternatives that can be recycled as well as through decreasing […]
Spinal cord injuries can be devastating to those who experience them. Currently, almost no options are available to reverse the effects, which can include paralysis, chronic pain and loss of bladder control. But an international team of researchers — including University Professor Molly Shoichet (ChemE, BME, Donnelly) — hopes to change that. Shoichet is a co-principal investigator […]
Seven U of T Engineering researchers have earned new or renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRCs) today, including our very own: Elizabeth Edwards (ChemE) Canada Research Chair in Anaerobic Biotechnology (renewal) Milica Radisic (BME, ChemE) Canada Research Chair in Organ-on-a-Chip Engineering (new) Ning Yan (ChemE) Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Bioproducts (new) See the list and read the full U of T Engineering News story.
In the early 1990s, Professor Vekatesh Mannar and Professor Levente Diosady began working together to develop a technology that would fortify salt with iron. Today, this technology is being used to further fortify salt through nutrient enhancements to combat deficiencies. Read the full article on the Institute for Food Technology website.
